Hovis Presley (Richard Henry McFarlane)
1960-2005
It was what economists, sociologists and kebab carousel maintenance men would call ‘ a bit of a dump’. But to Hovis Presley and a cast of instantly recognisable odd balls including Frugal Dougal, Anita Mullitova, Herbert Fountain and Natalie Satterley-Slattery, it’s home.
Adapted from the late Richard McFarlane’s much-loved “Poetic off Licence, Hovis in Wonderland charts the progress of his deadpan anti-hero over twelve eventful months.
Part One : as good things go…
Part Two : wherever I lay my hat…
Hovis in Wonderland is a play for voices written as a homage to the wit, word play and acute social observation of Richard Henry McFarlane and his alter-ego, Hovis Presley.
It was written and produced in 2007 and recorded in Bolton's Clockhouse Studio in 2008 to coincide with the BBC Radio 4 programme celebrating the life and work of Richard presented by Mark Radcliffe.
An image of the full original CD liner notes is included in the audio download along with a shot of Hovis from the original inside CD cover.
Hovis in Wonderland is offered can be streamed here for free though if you choose to download it for £2 that money will go towards the costs of producing Live from Worktown's various arts and heritage projects in Bolton. This would, of course, be very welcome and much appreciated.
